Greek bass-baritone, he studied singing at the Athens Conservatoire with Kiki Morfoniou and continued his studies in New York under Charles Kellis (Maria Callas scholarship, 1990). He has performed at the most famous opera houses worldwide such as Metropolitan Opera (New York), La Monnaie (Brussels), Scottish Opera, Frankfurt Opera House, etc as Banco (Macbeth), Colline (La bohème), Escamillo (Carmen), Leporello (Don Giovanni), Angelotti and Scarpia (Tosca), Capulet (Roméo et Juliette), Sharpless (Madama Butterfly) as well as next to Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo and under James Levine. At the Greek National Opera he has sung, among others, in operas like Andrea Chénier, Carmen, Fedora, Die Zauberflöte, Anna Bolena, Il trovatore, Peter Grimes, Věc Makropulos, Wozzeck, Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, Tosca, Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, Aleko, etc. He has received awards and distinctions in international competitions such as the Grand Prix Maria Callas (1987), MEF (1991). In addition, he has performed at the Athens Concert Hall as well as with the Athens State Orchestra, Orchestra of Colours, Music Ensembles of Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation in concerts in Greece and abroad. He has recorded extensively.

Gamelan Orchestra: First Gamelan Orchestra in Greece!

The Learning & Participation department of the GNO in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Athens are launching two Gamelan Orchestra workshops from January to April 2020. The aim of the workshop is to create the first Gamelan Orchestra in Greece and to introduce its members to the Gamelan music of Java and repertoire of contemporary classical music that uses Gamelan instruments.

The Greek National Opera welcomed 2020 with a big press conference at the Stavros Niarchos Hall in the SNFCC, on Thursday 9 January. The Greek National Opera’s Artistic Director Mr. Giorgos Koumendakis presented the first annual activity report of the GNO’s artistic outreach strategy which is supported by a grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) [www.SNF.org] , announced important new steps and presented the new international campaign which will promote the GNO’s work in Greece and abroad.

For a second year in a row, GNO’s Learning & Participation Department invites dads and their children for a ballet workshop. The aim of the workshop is for the participants to explore their skills and enhance their relationship through kinetic activities, improvisation and movement games. But above all, the aim is to have fun and to dare to dance!

Οι Εκπαιδευτικές & Κοινωνικές Δράσεις της ΕΛΣ προσκαλούν για δεύτερη φορά τους μπαμπάδες με τα παιδιά τους σε ένα εργαστήριο μπαλέτου και χορευτικού παιχνιδιού. Στόχος του εργαστηρίου είναι οι μπαμπάδες με τα παιδιά τους να διερευνήσουν τις δεξιότητές τους αλλά και να ενισχύσουν τη σχέση τους μέσα από κινητικές δραστηριότητες, αυτοσχεδιασμούς και παιχνίδια. Κυρίως όμως να το διασκεδάσουν, γιατί θα τολμήσουν να… χορέψουν!

On 1/11 starts the presale of the GNO January - March 2020 productions

Presale of the Greek National Opera January to March 2020 productions will start on Friday 1 November 2019.
It is announced that director Graham Vick has been obliged to withdraw from the production of Verdi’s Don Carlo at the Greek National Opera, as he is currently undergoing intensive medical treatment for a severe back condition and his doctors have told him that he will be unable to resume work until December.
Since the tickets for most of the eight performances of La sonnambula are sold out, an extra performance is added on Saturday 26 October 2019. Presale for the extra performance starts on Monday 14 October 2019.
