Georgian mezzo-soprano, οne of the most acclaimed opera singers of our time, she studied piano and singing at her homeland. She received a scholarship from the President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, and in 2007 she won the Paata Burchuladze Prize. While still a student at the conservatory, she debuted at the Tbilisi Opera as Maddalena in Rigoletto and as Olga in Eugene Onegin, subsequently joining the ensemble of the theatre in the fall of 2006. She came to international attention when she performed Carmen at La Scala, Milan (2009), opposite Jonas Kaufmann under Daniel Barenboim. Since then she has sung numerous roles to great acclaim all over the world. Frequently also heard in concert, she has performed with many leading conductors including Riccardo Muti, Christian Thielemann, Antonio Pappano and Semyon Bychkov. This is the sixth time she performs in Greece with the GNO: in 2018 she sang to great acclaim the role of Carmen at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, in 2020 she gave a recital at the Roman Agora of Athens, in 2021 she participated in the Verdi Gala at the Panathenaic Stadium, in 2023 she sang Charlotte (Werther), while last October she sang the role of La Cieca (The Blind One) in La Gioconda by Ponchielli.

Greek National Opera - Stavros Niarchos Hall
Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center
Starts at 19.30 (Sunday 18.30) |
In July 2024, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) announced a new two-year grant as part of its support plan for the Greek National Opera, with the main goal of further enhancing its outreach efforts both within Greece and internationally.
This new grant is intended to strengthen the GNO’s global presence even more and ensure its establishment as one of the world’s leading opera houses. Thanks to the support from the SNF, the Greek National Opera will continue its policy of pursuing international coproductions and collaborations with prominent artists in an even more focused manner, while showcasing its artistic work abroad and across Greece. At the same time, with the SNF’s support, it will expand its social policy through various targeted events.
A key strand of the new grant also includes investing in the education and training of the GNO’s artistic staff by continuing to award scholarships to honour graduates of the GNO Professional School of Dance, allowing them to pursue further studies abroad.
During the 2019-2023 period, thanks to the generous initial grant from the SNF, seven honour graduates from our School had the unique opportunity to continue their dance education, earning well-deserved places at prestigious educational institutions abroad.
The admission exams for the Professional Dance School of the Greek National Opera for the academic year 2026-2027 will be held in two rounds. The first round of selection will take place on 20 and 21 September 2026, and the second and final round will take place on 22 September 2026. All candidates must be present in both rounds.
The time and candidate groups for the first round of exams will be announced in the “NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS” section of the Greek National Opera’s official website (https://www.nationalopera.gr/nea-anakoinoseis) by Thursday, 10 September 2026. Candidates will be listed in each group in alphabetical order. Successful candidates of the first round will pass to the second round. The students of the new academic year will be selected from the successful candidates of the second round. Candidates will take an exam in classical ballet, modern dance, and rhythmics, in the presence of a jury panel.
Prior to the exams, a round of preparatory courses will be held from 16 to 19 September to acquaint participants with the techniques in which they will be tested. Candidates who will not attend the preparatory courses will still be entitled to participate in the admission exams. Candidates interested in attending the preparatory courses must indicate this in their application form and attend all classes.
The detailed programme of the preparation round, as well as the candidate groups, will be announced in the “NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS” section of the Greek National Opera’s official webpage (https://www.nationalopera.gr/nea-anakoinoseis) by Thursday, 10 September 2026.
