The Educational & Social Activities of the Greek National Opera compete for the Prize for Education of the FEDORA European platform for the promotion of innovative opera and ballet co-productions. After being pre-selected during the second phase of the public’s voting in February 2019, Co-OPERAtive: An intercultural and collaborative opera hub for young people has been shortlisted for the final stage of the competition. In this context, we organize the first crowdfunding campaign in the history of the GNO with the goal of collecting funds for the implementation of this groundbreaking project.

On Monday, 18 March 2019, at the GNO Ballet Studio at the SNFCC

The Greek National Opera announces that performances of the production of Mozart’s opera Le nozze di Figaro will start on Wednesday 27 March 2019, due to technical reasons.

Co-OPERAtive: An intercultural and collaborative opera hub for young people designed by GNO’s Learning & Participation Department has been shortlisted for the Education Prize of Fedora, the European Platform supporting innovation in Opera, Ballet and Education. Co-OPERAtive is an opera hub for a mixed group of 60 young Athenians and unaccompanied minor asylum seekers aged 15-17 across Attica. This project will be implemented in partnership with ARSIS and The HOME Project.
This project is inspired by the ability of opera – as a universal art form that encompasses all art forms – to function as a common language for creating the first intercultural youth opera hub in Europe. Inspired by its dreams and aspirations, this project aims to create as its artistic output, the first intercultural and collaborative opera created by a youth opera company. Co-OPERAtive will be contesting with a plethora of other education projects around Europe and its implementation that is scheduled to begin in January 2020.
