The concert titled 100 Years of Mikis Theodorakis is a unique tribute to the great work of the leading Greek composer. The programme draws on Mikis Theodorakis’ most lyrical and emblematic song cycles, illuminating the profoundly poetic and humanitarian aspects of his work.

Through Yannis Belonis’ arrangement and performances by Pantelis Thalassinos, Niki Grana, and a ten-member instrumental ensemble of soloists from the GNO opera, conducted by Stathis Soulis, the concert will showcase the timeless and universal character of Mikis Theodorakis’ music.

The programme has been selected to explore the lyrical aspect of Theodorakis’ songwriting, encouraging reflection on this concept that had been central to his thought. The majority of the songs to be performed come from song cycles that reveal a different side of this great composer: a more lyrical, inward-looking, and sensitive aspect, beyond the stereotypical image of the robust Theodorakis’ spirit.
