The most famous hunchback jester in shadow puppet theatre, Karagiozis, is called upon to undertake an… operatic mission: to perform the most renowned hunchback in opera, Rigoletto! In the highly successful shadow puppet opera production Karagiozis as Rigoletto, written by versatile comedian, director, and librettist Dimitris Dimopoulos and experienced shadow puppeteer Alexandros Melissinos, Karagiozis suddenly becomes a star in Rigoletto, at the opera house founded by the Vizier’s daughter in the seraglio, learning with humour and a disarming innocence all it takes to stage an opera.

The production skillfully combines traditional shadow puppet theatre with excerpts from Verdi’s masterful opera Rigoletto performed in Greek by three opera singers and humorously unveils the entire backstage world of opera, spreading knowledge and plenty of laughter in an alternative way!

Karagiozis is portrayed by Alexandros Melissinos with liveliness and originality, making this performance a fresh, interactive proposal for shadow puppet theatre. This show is for both children and adults, promising to amuse and educate, and proving that tradition and the art of opera can coexist with humor and creativity.
