MEIZON ENSEMBLE

Male vocal ensemble, founded in 2017. Active in the field of a cappella choral music, it focuses on cultivating vocal homogeneity, stylistic precision and performance consistency. The ensemble has performed at the GNO Alternative Stage, Athens Concert Hall, Theatre of Ancient Messene, Mystras, Poseidon’s Sanctuary in Sounio (‘All of Greece, One Culture’), Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens (1st Sacred Music Festival), Athens Old Stock Exchange (2nd Sacred Music Festival). Of particular significance has been the world premiere (third musical version) of the Hymn to Liberty by Solomos and Mantzaros (Athens Concert Hall, online concert) and the collaboration with the Athens State Orchestra for Koumendakis’ Requiem for the End of Love (Athens Concert Hall). The ensemble’s repertoire spans from Renaissance and contemporary Western polyphony to the liturgical music of the Eastern Orthodox tradition. Its goals are high-level concert performances, the recordings of the works and the systematic promotion of Greek choral music. Music director of the MEIZON Ensemble is Agathangelos Georgakatos, the GNO chorus master.
