TOMMI HAKALA

Finnish baritone, he graduated from the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. He was bestowed the renowned “BBC Singer of the World” Award in 2003 and the 1st prize at the national Merikanto Singing Competition in 2001. His years at the Leipzig Opera (2001-2004) won him increasing renown for such roles as Wolfram (Tannhäuser), Germont (La traviata), Ford (Falstaff), Count (Le nozze di Figaro). During his engagement at the Finn- ish National Opera (2008-2013) he expanded his repertoire to include roles such as Amfortas (Parsifal), Kurwenal (Tristan und Isolde), Escamillo (Carmen), Onegin (Eugene Onegin) and Renato (Un ballo in maschera). He has sung at the MET, Dresden State Opera, Strasbourg, Copenhagen, Vlaamse Opera, Teatro Real (Madrid), San Francisco, Atlanta, Savonlinna Opera Festival, Amsterdam, Budapest, Geneva, Turin. He has performed in concerts worldwide and has worked with numerous prestigious conductors. In 2019 he made his debut as Wotan (Das Rheingold, Finnish National Opera), while Wotan (Die Walküre), Wanderer (Siegfried) and the title role in Der fliegende Holländer followed in the 2022/23 season.
