SOPHIA KYANIDOU

Greek soprano, she studied at the New Conservatory of Thessaloniki under Varvara Tsambali and at the Vienna Academy of Music with Helene Karusso, Kurt Equiluz and Curt Malm. At the Greek National Opera, among others, she has sung Antonia (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Micaëla (Carmen), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Echo (Ariadne auf Naxos), Kyra (Kalomiris’ The Mother’s Ring), Gertrud (Hänsel und Gretel), Aksinya (Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk). Moreover, in Austria she has sung Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) and Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus). She has performed with Armonia Atenea, Athens and Thessaloniki State Orchestras, Greek Music Ensemble, Orchestra of Colours, Athens Chamber Orchestra at the Megaron – The Athens Concert Hall, Thessaloniki Opera, at the Vienna State Opera and the Musikverein (Vienna). Her repertoire includes Samaras’ La Martire (Wuppertal Opera), Iphigénie (Iphigénie en Tauride), Leonora (Fidelio) and Elvira (Ernani) in cooperation with the artistic ensemble Greek Opera, while recently she sang Strauss’ Four Last Songs (London, I maestri). Her repertoire ranges from Baroque to contemporary composers. The last years she had been studying with Daphne Evangelatos.
