Julia Souglakou

Greek soprano, she studied voice, advanced music theory and piano at the National Conservatory, Athens, and continued her opera studies in London under Vera Rózsa (Maria Callas scholarship). She made her debut at the GNO in 1994. Since then she has sung numerous leading roles such as Nedda (Pagliacci), Elvira (Ernani), Maria (Simon Boccanegra), Leonora (Il trovatore), Lady Macbeth (Macbeth), Countess Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Anna Bolena, Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Musetta (La bohème), Freia (Das Rheingold), Gioconda, Mother (Il prigioniero), Ariadne (Ariadne auf Naxos), Ortrud (Lohengrin), Kostelnička (Jenůfa), Brünnhilde (Twi- light of the Debts). In addition, she has performed leading roles in operas by Greek composers. Souglakou has repeatedly worked with the Athens and Thessaloniki Concert Halls in operas, oratorios and symphonies and has performed as a soloist with the most prestigious ensembles of Greece. She has given numerous recitals, she has cooperated with international festivals and has participated in chamber music concerts, films, dance theatre performances, radio and television productions.
