George Iatrou

Greek baritone. He studied at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki, his hometown, at the Cologne University of Music and Dance and at the Robert Schumann Conservatory in Düsseldorf. He has worked with opera companies in Cologne, Dublin, Toronto, Bonn, Dortmund, Aachen, Avignon, Saint-Étienne, Fribourg, Montepulciano, GNO and Olympia Municipal Music Theatre “Maria Callas”. Since 2015, he has been a member of the Aalto Theatre Ensemble in Essen, Germany. He has interpreted roles such as Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Valentine (Faust), Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), Marcello and Schaunard (La bohème), Gabriel von Eisenstein and Dr Falke (Die Fledermaus) and the title roles in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo and Orff’s Prometheus. He has participated in major opera, Lied and theatre festivals such as Bachfest Leipzig, Holland Festival, Festival de Marseille, Athens Epidaurus Festival, Romaeuropa, in venues such as Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam, Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Kölner Philharmonie, Philharmonie Essen, Grieghallen, the Irish National Concert Hall, etc. He participated in the Young Artists Festival in Bayreuth, Germany, and won prizes at the international competitions in Düsseldorf, Riva, Milan and Luxembourg. He has performed world premiere roles in contemporary works, such as Prometheus and Zeus in Frederick Svenk’s opera Prometheus Unbound, Paulus in Kharálampos Goyós’ opera Anthony’s Death, Daniel in Mark Anthony Turnage’s opera Anna Nicole, the Drag Performer in Michalis Paraskakis’ opera Strella, Jesus in Thomas Gabriel’s oratorio Christi Kreuz vor Augen to a text by Eugen Eckert.
