CHRISTIAN LACROIX

One of the leading designers of his generation, he was born in Arles in southern France. He began designing costumes at a young age. He studied art history at the University of Montpellier and Sorbonne, aiming to become a museum curator. Early in his career, he collaborated with renowned fashion houses, such as Hermès and Jean Patou. In 1987, he launched his own fashion house. He soon established a totally personal style, combining elements from different traditions, impressive designs, various fabrics and unusual materials. Since 1983 he has designed costumes for opera, ballet, theatre and cinema all over the world. Famous for his wedding dresses, the Air France staff uniforms (2005) as well as hotel interior design in Paris, he has dressed famous artists and received numerous awards. His costumes have been exhibited in major museums around the world. He has worked again with the Greek National Opera, as in 2015 he designed the sets and the costumes for the ballet Cinderella.
