ROMAIN GILBERT

French stage director, he initially studied piano and opera singing at the Paris Conservatoire and obtained an engineering degree before turning to arts and cultural management. He holds a master’s degree in music management (Sorbonne University). After many years of experience in production management, he turned to stage direction. He has assisted at various European theatres and festivals, including La Monnaie (Brussels), Royal Danish Theatre (Copenhagen), Royal Opera House (Covent Garden, London), Gran Teatre del Liceu (Barcelona) and Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. As a stage director, he has presented, among others, the operas La Périchole (2018), Carmen (2021) and Werther (2022) in Bordeaux. He has also directed operas in semi-staged version at the Salzburg Whitsun Festival, Festival Radio France, Enescu Festival (Bucharest), Elbphilharmonie and Baden-Baden. He recently directed Carmen (Versailles, Hong Kong, Hanoi, Dallas), La Gioconda (Naples, Barcelona) as well as Roméo et Juliette (Dallas).
