ANDREI ŞERBAN

Born in Romania, he is one of the boldest and most innovative directors in theatre and opera worldwide. After his first staging productions in his home country and his collaboration as an assistant to Peter Brook in Paris and Shiraz, he received international acclaim touring his Greek trilogy (Electra, Medea, The Trojan Women in ancient Greek) with New York’s La MaMa company. His international career expanded beyond directing theatre (USA, Asia, and Europe) to opera (Metropolitan Opera in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, Covent Garden, Paris, Vienna, Geneva, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, etc). He was also the Head of the Theatre Department at Columbia University and the first general manager of the National Theatre in Bucharest, after the revolution. His Turandot at the Royal Opera House in London has been performed with great success over the last four decades. He has previously presented his work in Greece, but this is his first collaboration with the Greek National Opera.
