ΕΜILY LOUIZOU

Born and raised in Athens, for the last ten years she has been living and working as a stage director in London. She studied English Literature at the University College London and then was accepted onto the MFA Theatre Directing at Birkbeck College (University of London). She has also attended by invitation the six-month opera directing course with Katie Mitchell at the Royal Opera House (London). In 2015 she founded the theatre group Collide with which she has directed eight performances in London, many of which have been funded by the English government. About Collide the Guardian wrote in 2022 that “they are definitely a team worth following”. In 2020 she was resident associate director at the Royal Shakespeare Company, in Shakespeare’s birthplace, Stratford-upon-Avon. In Greece, she has directed the modern Greek play Labor at the Poria Theatre (2022) and Symptoms of Weight Loss (inspired by Aeschylus’ Eumenides) at the Little Theatre of Ancient Epidaurus (2023).
