YANNIS HOUVARDAS

A graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London (1975), he continued with studies on dramaturgy and directing at the Württemberg State Theatre (1979). He was a co-founder, director and actor of Theatriki Syntehnia (1977-1980), with which he toured in festivals in Greece and abroad. He founded and directed the innovative Theatre of the South (Theatro tou Notou) at the Amore Theatre (1991-2008). He was the artistic director of the National Theatre of Greece (2007-2013). From 1975 until today, he has directed more than 120 theatre and opera performances in major organisations in Greece and abroad, such as National Theatre of Greece, Greek National Opera, Athens Concert Hall, State Theatre of Northern Greece, Hellenic Festival, Onassis Stegi, SNFCC, Cyprus Theatrical Organisation, La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club (New York), Royal Dramatic Theatre (Stockholm), Theater tri-bühne (Stuttgart), National Theatre of Norway, Norwegian Theatre Oslo, Stockholm Municipal Theatre, Burgtheater (Vienna), Residenz- theater (Munich), Thalia Theater (Hamburg), Neumarkttheater (Zurich), Gothenburg Opera, Copenhagen Royal Opera, Trondheim State Theatre, London Globe Theatre, Stuttgart State Opera, etc.
