EKTORAS TARTANIS

Born in Stuttgart to Greek parents, he composed his first works at the age of twelve. He began conducting at the age of fifteen, laying the foundations for his professional career as a composer and conductor. He studied music theory, composition and conducting at the University of Music in Stuttgart and went on to study conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and the Anton Bruckner University in Linz, where he graduated with distinction. In 2021, he received the Special Prize at the International Khachaturian Conducting Competition in Yerevan, Armenia. He is chief conductor of the South Bavarian Philharmonic and also 1st Kapellmeister at the Freiburg Opera from the 2019/20 artistic season. Tartanis worked for years as a musical assistant to Teodor Currentzis, from whom he received formative artistic impulses. Besides conducting, composition still occupies most of his activity. His works are published by Universal edition. This is his first collaboration with the Greek National Opera.
