GRAHAM VICK

British director, he was established as one of the foremost opera directors worldwide. He passed away in 2021. His productions had been seen at the most prestigious opera houses throughout the world, including La Scala (Milan), the MET (New York), Royal Opera House (Covent Garden, London), Mariinsky Theatre (St Petersburg), Deutsche Oper Berlin, San Francisco Opera, Arena di Verona, etc. He had collaborated with leading conductors such as Muti, Levine, Haitink, Mehta, Ozawa and Gergiev. He had directed productions at the Glyndebourne Festival (1994-2000) and founded the Birmingham Opera Company (1987), where for many years was artistic director. He had received many international awards including three times the Premio Abbiati and twice the South Bank Show Award. Vick was a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, an Honorary Professor of Music at the University of Birmingham and he held the International Chair of Opera at the Royal Northern College of Music. In 2006 he was made a CBE and in 2016 he was awarded Honorary Membership of the Royal Philharmonic Society. For the Greek National Opera he directed La bohème, Tannhäuser, Cavalleria rusticana and Pagliacci.
