MILENA CANONERO

Italian costume designer, she has worked for both film and stage productions. She has won four Academy Awards for Best Costume Design and has been nominated nine times. She studied art, design history and costume design in Italy (Genoa), and moved to England, where she began working in small theatres, film productions and commercials. She worked as a costume designer in Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon (first Oscar with Ulla-Britt Söderlund) and The Shining. Canonero designed the costumes for several stagings directed by Otto Schenk, such as Puccini’s Il trittico, Die Fledermaus and Andrea Chénier (Vienna State Opera), Shakespeare’s As You Like It (Salzburg Festival) and Arabella (Metropolitan Opera, New York). Moreover, she created the costumes for Tosca (Metropolitan Opera, New York) and Euripides’ Helen (Burgtheater, Vienna), both directed by Luc Bondy, as well as for the famous TV series Miami Vice. She has received numerous awards.
