FABIANA PICCIOLI

Born in Rome, she began her artistic journey as a dancer before joining the Akram Khan Company as technical director and lighting designer (2005-2013). She works with esteemed opera, theatre and dance stage directors, as well as leading choreographers. In opera, she has created lighting for celebrated productions such as Semele (Théâtre des Champs-Élysées), Jephtha and Rigoletto (ROH), Alice’s Adventures Under Ground (RΟΗ, Irish National Opera), Don Giovanni (GNO), The Indian Queen (Opéra de Lille), Eugene Onegin (Scottish Opera, Opéra national du Rhin) and Le nozze di Figaro (La Scala). Her theatre credits include Les Démons and Médée (Comédie-Française), Invisible Cities (Manchester International Festival) and Ophelias Zimmer (Schaubühne Berlin, Royal Court Τheatre). She has created lighting and set design for classical ballet and contemporary dance. She has won three Knight of Illumination awards—two for dance and one for opera—as well as the Danza & Danza Prize for Best Lighting Design. She first collaborated with the Greek National Opera in the production of Don Giovanni (2022).
