NIKOS KARATHANOS

Born in Athens, originating from Evrytania, Greece, he studied at the Pedagogical Academy of Rhodes and at the Drama School of the National Theatre of Greece. As an actor, he has collaborated with such directors as Anatoly Vasiliev, Dimiter Gotscheff, Yorgos Lanthimos, Jossi Wieler, Matthias Langhoff, John Madden, Yannis Houvardas, Michael Marmarinos, Dimitris Mavrikios, Vassilis Papavassiliou, etc. He has starred in performances of classical and contemporary repertoire and has taken part in tours across Greece and internationally. He has directed to great acclaim Prometheus, Birds, Operetta, Salome, The Cherry Orchard, Decameron, Golfo, Cyrano de Bergerac, Eight Women, while his works have been presented in New York, Santiago, Montpellier. He has collaborated with the National Theatre of Greece, Athens Epidaurus Festival, Onassis Stegi, with numerous Greek private and regional theatres and the Getty Museum in Los Angeles. Ηe and his collaborators have received numerous awards. He teaches at the Drama School of the National Theatre (Stage Direction Department). Moreover, he has taught at the Urca University in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. At the GNO he directed first time the opera Inland (2022).
