Haig Yazdjian

One of the most prominent figures of the Greek world jazz music scene in the last decade. Armenian by origin, born and raised in Syria, he has lived and worked in Greece since 1980. His virtuosity on the oud and the unique sensitivity of his voice quickly established him as one of the most promising personalities of Greek music creation. He has collaborated creatively with many composers and performers from the Greek and international scenes. He released his debut solo album, Talar, in 1996, which established him as one of the most promising composers of his generation. In 1998, his second album, Garin, and the single Gift were released, further consolidating his reputation. In 2001, the album Yeraz was released, at a point of expressive and performative maturity for the composer. In 2007, the album Amalur was released, featuring Eleftheria Arvanitaki and Ara Dinkjian. On this album, Haig Yazdjian performed songs with Greek lyrics for the first time, while –also for the first time– he used an instrument of his own invention, the electric oud.
