Michalis Kouloumis

Born in Cyprus. He attended violin lessons with Giorgos Zympoulakis. He received his degree in traditional violin from the Philippos Nakas Conservatory in Athens with Yiorgos Marinakis. He attended violin masterclass with Baki Kemancı (Instabul), Stathis Koukoularis and Nedim Nalbantoğlu, workshops in Ottoman classical music with Kudsi Ergüner, Murat Aydemir, Ömer Erdoğdular, orchestration and modal theory with Ross Daly. He has performed on Cypriot, Greek, Turkish, French and British state television. He has collaborated with Jordi Savall, Kudsi Ergüner, Nana Mouskouri, Εleni Vitali, Chronis Aidonidis, Dine Doneff, Manos Achalinotopoulos, Keyvan Chemirani, Halim Al-Khatib, Efrén López, Ross Daly. He has played in many recordings, as well as in theatres and festivals around the world. In 2013, he completed his master’s studies, specializing in Violin Performance in Ottoman Classical music, at the Codarts, University for the Arts (Netherlands), where he has been a violin professor since 2013. In 2014, he released his first album titled Soil. He is a member of the Lingua Franca Ensemble; their first CD, Ephemera, was released in 2017. In 2018, he released his second personal album, Displaced Dreams.
