Nikos Paraoulakis

Born in Crete in 1977. In 1995, he moved to Athens to study music. He studied and received degrees in music theory (harmony, counterpoint) with Panagiotis Adam, Joseph Papadatos and Vassilis Foster, in guitar with Thanasis Koumenteris and in jazz guitar with Yiotis Samaras. Since 2000, he focused on the Eastern and Greek musical traditions. He was taught ney by Ömer Erdoğdular and Haris Lambrakis. He collaborates with many significant Greek and foreign composers and musicians in concert and recordings (Sokratis Malamas, Alkinoos Ioannidis, Orfeas Peridis, Haig Yazidjian, Antonis Apergis, Márta Sebestyén, Haris Alexiou, Eleni Vitali, Loudovikos ton Anogeion, Vasilis Skoulas, Nikos Kypourgos, etc.). He taught ney at the Technological Educational Institute of Epirus (Department of Traditional Music) in Arta (2005-2006, Greece). In 2014, he published the CD From Light and Darkness featuring his own music, orchestration, production and sound recording, with lyrics by Dimitris Papacharalampous and sung by Alkinoos Ioannidis, Manolis Lidakis, Alexandros Rizos, Mariana Dakanali, Maria Koti, Nikos Venetakis, Maria Fasoulaki, Panos Papaioannou, Zoe Vergaki.
