Diego Tortelli

Born in 1987, he studied at the Accademia Teatro alla Scala. His career started with the Ballet de Teatres in Valencia, followed by Luna Negra Dance Theater in Chicago, Ballet National de Marseille, Bavarian State Ballet, Richard Siegal’s The Bakery, among others. Since 2015, he has also been concentrating on his own choreographic practice, creating pieces for Introdans, Compañía Nacional de Danza, Madrid, Teatro Massimo, Palermo and the Museum Of Contemporary Art Chicago. In 2017, he presented his first full-length piece Sleeping Beauty, followed by Lorca sono tutti and Domus Aurea for the Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto. In 2019, his first collaboration with dramaturg Miria Wurm was named Shifting Perspective. Their second piece, SNOW CRASH followed in 2020, then HOLE IN SPACE in 2021, Fo:No for the Venice Biennale and GOD’s FORMULA in 2022. In 2023 he premiered his latest work with his company, TERRANOVA | body maps. Since 2019, Diego Tortelli has been appointed choreographer in residence at the Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto in Italy, having created 20 works for the company until now. In 2021 he was the winner of the first call for Italian artists launched by the Venice Biennale. Passionate about videography, he works on film projects such as Parade for arte.tv, GOD’s FORMULA – the movie and an hommage to Raimund Hoghe H – Schritte in schwarzen Räumen.
