Yannis Belonis

PhD in Musicology. He is an arranger and the Manager of the Greek National Opera Historical Archive and Music Library. He was a close collaborator of Mikis Theodorakis for over a decade. Since 2002, he has been a chief editor of the Greek musicological journal Polyphonia. He specialises in Greek music and in particular the composers of the Greek National School. His book Chamber Music in Greece in the First Half of the 20th Century was awarded a prize by the Union of Greek Critics for Drama and Music. His articles and papers have been published in Greek and international scientific journals, collective editions, newspapers and programme notes. In collaboration with Mikis Theodorakis, he orchestrated several of the composer’s song cycles, incidental music and CDs for symphony orchestra and other music ensembles. As arranger and pianist, he has participated in numerous concert and theatre productions in Greece and abroad, collaborating with numerous other composers, singers, symphony orchestras, ensembles and choirs.
