CHARLES-LOUIS YOSHIYAMA

Born in Japan, he trained on scholarship at the English National Ballet School and the Ben Stevenson Academy of the Houston Ballet. In 2007, he was a finalist both at the Prix de Lausanne (Switzerland), winning the Contemporary Dance Prize, and at the Youth America Grand Prix. He joined Houston Ballet as an apprentice (2008), he was promoted to a Soloist (2013) and later became a Principal Dancer (2016). In early 2023 he joined the Oregon Ballet Theatre as a Principal Dancer and during 2023/24 the Ballett Zürich as a First Soloist. He has been featured in many roles, including Prince Rudolf (Kenneth MacMillan’s Mayerling), Des Grieux (Manon), Oberon (John Neumeier’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Albrecht (Stanton Welch’s Giselle), Solor (La Bayadère), Prince Florimund (Ben Stevenson’s The Sleeping Beauty), Basilio (Don Quixote) and Prince in both Welch’s and Stevenson’s The Nutcracker. He has collaborated with many renowned choreographers and has performed in prestigious theatres worldwide. This is the first time he performs with the GNO Ballet.
