Gustavo Carvalho

Currently dancing as a Soloist at the Ballet of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Düssel- dorf, he started his classical ballet studies at the Brazilian Dance Conservatory in Rio de Janeiro. In 2009 he was invited to join the Brazilian Ballet Company, where he soon became a Soloist. In 2010 at the age of 15 he started to dance principal roles of classical and contemporary repertoire of this company. In 2014 he was invited by director Julio Bocca to dance as a Guest Principal the roles of Basilio (Don Quixote) and Solor (La Bayadère) with the National Ballet of Uruguay in Montevideo. In the end of that year he joined the company as a Soloist and got promoted to Principal Dancer in 2015. With this company he was nominated for the Prix Benois de la danse in 2017 for the role of Don José in Marcia Haydée’s Carmen. In 2020 he joined the Ballet of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, after receiving an invitation from the newly appointed artistic director Demis Volpi.
