Maia Makhateli

Βorn in Tbilisi, Georgia, she trained at the Choreographic Institute of Vakhtang Chabukiani and Colorado, USA. After being finalist and medalist in competitions, she joined Colorado Ballet, later the Birmingham Royal Ballet and in 2007 the Dutch National Ballet, where shortly after she became a Principal Dancer. She has performed in prestigious theatres and has been a guest in many galas and festivals worldwide. For the role of Marguerite Gautier (La Dame aux camélias by John Neumeier) she was nominated for the Prix Benois de la danse, while in 2020 she was chosen by Dance Europe magazine as “Dancer of the year”. Recently she performed in José Carlos Martínez’s Le Corsaire (Slovenian National Theatre), Benjamin Pech’s Swan Lake (Rome Opera) and Frida by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa (Dutch National Ballet). Moreover, she danced in Giselle by Eleonora Abbagnato (Teatro Lirico, Cagliari) and debuted in the world premiere of Ray- monda by Rachel Beaujean (Dutch National Ballet). She has received numerous awards.
