George Varvariotis

Born in Thessaloniki, Greece, he studied with scholarship at the Kirov Ballet Academy in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg) as well as at the West Street Ballet School, Covent Garden. He made his debut in Greece with the Kirov Ballet Academy at the Athens Concert Hall. Since 1994 he is a member of the Ballet of the Greek National Opera and in 2001 he became a Principal Dancer. He has danced lead roles in prestigious performances worldwide in Russia, England, Australia, Egypt, Turkey, Cyprus, either invited from foreign opera theatres, either on tours with the Greek National Opera. In 2002 he won the Greek Ministry of Culture prize for Best Dancer for his interpretation in Macbeth. For the Ballet of the Greek National Opera he has choreographed the works Information, Evergreen and Avarice (An evening with the young choreographers of the Greek National Opera Ballet, Open rehearsal of the Greek National Opera Ballet new choreographers).
