Tickets for Greek National Opera productions to be presented inside the Stavros Niarchos Hall and on the Alternative Stage at the SNFCC from September through December 2023 go on sale this Monday, 31 July 2023 at 9.00. This programme is made possible by a grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) to enhance the GNO’s artistic outreach.

September will see a new work by Ioanna Pantazopoulou –the third commission of The Artist on the Composer, a music and visual arts cycle produced in partnership with NEON– installed inside the Stavros Niarchos Hall. Meanwhile, the Alternative Stage will be presenting Underwater by Xenia Aidonopoulou and Georgia Tegou –a dance theatre production for infants and parents– and a concert titled The Classical Mikis Theodorakis: Works for Piano Solo.

October and November will see the Dmitri Shostakovich opera Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk return to the Stavros Niarchos Hall, in a production conducted by Fabrizio Ventura and directed by Fanny Ardant, while the chamber opera Strella by Michalis Paraskakis is to be presented on the Alternative Stage in October.

Coming to the Stavros Niarchos Hall in November is the second Greek National Opera co-production with the Opéra Comique (Paris): the opera Les Éclairs by Philippe Hersant with a libretto by Jean Echenoz, in a production conducted by Elias Voudouris and directed by Clément Hervieu-Léger. The Alternative Stage will see Colours –a contemporary dance triptych featuring choreographies by Eva Georgitsopoulou, Diego Tortelli, and Konstantinos Rigos– presented by the GNO Ballet, alongside A Cloud in Love, the opera for children and young audiences by Sofia Kamayianni, and the 6th Baroque Music Festival.

In December, three productions –the documentary feature film Mary, Mariana, Maria – The Unsung Greek Years of Callas; Giacomo Puccini’s La bohème conducted by Ondrej Olos and directed by Graham Vick; and the Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky ballet The Nutcracker choreographed by Konstantinos Rigos and conducted by Yorgos Ziavras– are all to be presented inside the Stavros Niarchos Hall. On the Alternative Stage that same month will be the musical Into the Woods, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a libretto by James Lapine.
