Nabucco - 1,500 free places for the unemployed

The Greek National Opera is offering 1,500 free places for the unemployed to watch the dress rehearsal of Giuseppe Verdi’s opera masterpiece Nabucco –on Tuesday, 25 July 2023 at 21.00– at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus.

For an eighth year –and after an interruption imposed by the pandemic– the Greek National Opera is once again giving our unemployed fellow citizens the chance to watch an impressive opera production at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus for free, helping in this way to make the opera arts open to all.

Nabucco is considered one of Giuseppe Verdi’s greatest operas. On a personal level, the work sealed his place as the most important Italian composer of the 19th century; on a broader, societal level, it came to signify the struggle for the unification of Italy. The opera is famous, among other things, for its celebrated “Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves”, which is held up by Italians as something of an alternative national anthem since it expressed a collective sense of opposition to Austrian domination. The production, to be presented for four performances on 26, 27, 29 and 30 July, is being conducted by the internationally acclaimed Italian maestro Paolo Carignani and staged by a leading Italian director – Leo Muscato. It stars Greek and international soloists of global standing.

Free tickets for the Nabucco dress rehearsal will be given to those presenting a valid unemployment card or certificate alongside some form of ID at the Greek National Opera Box Office at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (364 Syngrou Ave., Kallithea / hotline: +30 2130885700) on Friday, 21 July 2023, from 11.00 through until 20.00.

Please note that each holder of an unemployment card or certificate is entitled to receive up to two tickets.
