AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT

The Greek National Opera is seeking male dancers for its production of Giacomo Puccini’s Madama Butterfly directed by Olivier Py, to be presented at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus on 1, 4, 7 and 10 June 2023. These dancers will be called upon to perform choreographies –and movement more generally– inspired by the Japanese art of butoh. Dancers trained in or familiar with this particular form are welcomed, without this excluding dancers trained in classical ballet or other dance disciplines. Applicants should be aware that airbrushed body painting is to be used, which means that their chests, legs, armpits, and ideally their heads will need to be smooth (i.e. shaved) for the performances. Dancers selected for the production will be contracted for a total of 25 days between 4 May and 10 June 2023, and paid on par with a GNO corps de ballet dancer. They will need to be available for all rehearsals and performances (a detailed schedule will be released in the next few days).

The audition is to be held on Tuesday, 2 May 2023 at the GNO’s facilities at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre (SNFCC), from 17:00 to 20:00.
