Open call for teenagers to participate in Co-OPERAtive: An intercultural and collaborative opera hub for young people

The Learning and Participation Department of the Greek National Opera invites teenagers between 14 and 18 years old to participate in the third edition of Co-OPERAtive: an intercultural and collaborative opera hub for young people. The educational programme Co-OPERAtive will offer a series of workshops led by distinguished artists from the fields of music, theatre and dance ato a group of 30 young people from different ethnic, social and cultural backgrounds. Unaccompanied asylum-seeking minors and students from several schools and neighbourhoods of Attica will develop a common artistic language with the goal of co-creating their own original new work.

Co-OPERAtive aims at bringing opera closer to young audiences, while highlighting the multicultural diversity of contemporary Athens and the importance of social cohesion. The programme will give the participants the chance to deal with current issues and share their personal concerns through art, get to know all the stages of an opera production up close, and in the end present their work on the GNO Alternative Stage. Foregrounding the cooperative nature of opera, the programme Co-OPERAtive places collaboration at the heart of its planning and implementation by building strong alliances with its partner-organisations Evropaiki Ekfrasi and Kinoniko EKAV.

Participation in the programme does not require specialised knowledge in music, theatre or dance. However, any prior amateur or professional relationship with these arts will be taken into consideration during the evaluation process. The main prerequisites for participation in Co-OPERAtive are the candidates’ eagerness, their interest in the project, and, of course, their availability on the days and time of the workshops and rehearsals.
