Carmen on the streets of Athens

With three surprise - artistic events at Flisvos Marina, the pedestrian walkway of Dionysiou Areopagitou and Monastiraki Square, Greek National Opera farewells the "Suitcase Carmen", the flexible opera production which travelled throughout Greece, in the framework of the programme "Journey to the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center" and welcomes the great forthcoming production of Carmen to Odeon Of Herodes Atticus.

The soloists of the Greek National Opera, driven by Bizet’s magical melodies, are back to the streets of Athens, to meet and charm the Athenians and the visitors of the city.

The three surprise - events take place in the following venues:

  • On Friday, June 19 at 20.00 at Flisvos Marina of Paleo Faliro
  • On Saturday, June 20 at 18.00 at Dionysiou Areopagitou pedestrian walkway and Makrigianni str. (opposite the Acropolis Museum)
  • On Saturday, June 20 at 20.00 at Tzisdarakis Mosque* on Monastiraki Square

These artistic events mark the completion of the third phase of the programme Journey to the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center in which the "Suitcase Carmen" travelled to 22 cities across Greece, with the exclusive donation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. At the same time, the preparation of the Greek National Opera officially begins for its new production of Bizet’s Carmen at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, on July 26, 28, 30 & 31. It will be conducted by GNO Artistic Director Myron Michailidis and directed by Steven Langkritz.
