An irrational tale

An Irrational Tale is funded by the Ministry of Culture, as part of the work “Sub 1.1.6 Attracting individuals aged 65 and over and individuals with disabilities to events of the Greek National Opera,” which is implemented as part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0” with funds from the European Union – NextGenerationEU.

After last year’s highly successful run, the educational and artistic programme An Irrational Tale is coming back to continue its journey with a final cycle during the 2025/26 season. The programme, designed to promote inclusion and collective creation, is targeted at a mixed group of individuals with or without disabilities, foregrounding the desire to talk and be heard, as well as the self-evident need for meaningful connection.

 During last year’s cycle, participants used storytelling, movement, music, and improvisation to draw from their daily lives and craft a shared artistic narrative that was both moving and inspiring.

This year’s project is based on the same philosophy while paving the way for new approaches and discoveries. Using folk poetry and paralogés – these unique narrative songs that describe human adventures in a fairy-tale style – as a starting point, the groups will explore their epic and lyrical qualities, while making use of fantastic elements beyond reason to create a new, modern paralogí: an “irrational” multiverse piece with themes inspired by the participants’ daily lives and the urban-mythological landscape of Athens.

In this way, the programme will continue to connect the traditional with the contemporary, and individual experiences with collective creation, offering a field where art becomes a vehicle for communication, inclusion, and inspiration.
