During the 2025-2026 school year, the Learning & Participation Department of the Greek National Opera will implement the new educational programme The GNO Goes to School! in collaboration with all six grades of Primary Schools in the Attica Region. The programme invites school communities to participate in a comprehensive educational journey that brings the world of opera and artistic creation into the school setting, cultivating children’s imagination, participation, and creative expression.

Through interactive student visits to the Greek National Opera's venues and daily activities, as well as through artistic interventions conducted in the classroom, children will be meaningfully introduced to the polyphonic universe of opera. Conversations with professionals in the field, hands-on workshops, screenings of excerpts from well-known works, and specially designed educational materials will collectively provide an experience that allows children not only to learn about but also to witness the creative process up close.

Throughout the school year, each selected class will participate in a series of educational activities that connect schools to the living organism of an opera house, highlighting the professions associated with it, the production stages, and the unseen world behind every performance.

This initiative aims to inspire students and educators, boost their creativity, and open up new ways of expression, bringing the magic of opera to the heart of the school setting. Eligible to participate in the programme are classes from all six Primary School Grades in the Attica Region. Each Primary School Unit may submit more than one application to participate, as each class can apply independently for the programme.

Applications may be submitted by either the Principal of the school unit or by an educator within the school. In the second case, applications must be accompanied by appropriate consent from the School Unit’s Principal authorizing the class to participate in the programme.

The selection process for participating classes will consider the reasons each school wants to take part in the programme, as outlined in the application form. The selection process will evaluate only applications submitted on time, completed in full, and meeting all relevant terms and requirements of this open call. The final results of the selection process will be announced by Wednesday, the 28^th of January 2026, at the latest.
