The Greek National Opera’s Professional Dance School presents the performance Μetamorphosis, under the guidance of its Director of Studies, Yorghos Matskaris, on Saturday, the 13th, and Sunday, the 14th of June 2026, at 20.00, in the Stavros Niarchos Hall at the SNFCC. After completing another year of studies, students will be tested on four choreographies by Elizaveta Basova – Fotis Diamantopoulos, Cyril Baldy, Jesús Rubio Gamo, and Danai Mitsiani, a student at the school.
The modular performance Metamorphosis will open with the neoclassical choreography Homage, a new piece created by the GNO Professional Dance School’s instructors, Elizaveta Basova and Fotis Diamantopoulos, set to music by Antonio Vivaldi. This choreography draws inspiration from the renowned choreographer George Balanchine and is dedicated to his unique and lasting artistic influence on dance.
The internationally distinguished French dancer and choreographer, Cyril Baldy, revisits his choreography, With Love and All That, which was first performed at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris. Starting from classical ballet, With Love and All That – ACT II explores the essence of dance, drawing on classical ballet as a foundation to shape thoughtful, carefully constructed choreographic landscapes. Originally conceived as a three-act work, the piece focuses on dynamic group formations—an expanded field of collective movement where structure, momentum, and shifting spatial patterns drive the choreography—and reconnects with the raw, expressive power of movement, offering a contemporary approach to ballet’s timeless beauty.
The internationally acclaimed Spanish choreographer Jesús Rubio Gamo stamps his mark on the revival of an excerpt from his choreography titled Gran Bolero. Awarded the MAX Prize (Spanish awards for the performing arts) for Best Dance Show in 2020, Gran Bolero is an intense piece. It’s an ode to hope and to dance itself. Lightness fights with gravity on the very thin line between pleasure and exhaustion. It is a dance to celebrate the time and space we share.
Alongside the pieces by renowned choreographers, Danai Mitsiani, a student from the GNO Professional Dance School, will make her choreographic debut with Between States in the performance Metamorphosis. This work commissioned from Danai Mitsiani aligns with the School’s educational policy, which aims to develop a new generation of choreographers in Greece.
