Annual performance showcase of the Greek National Opera Professional Dance School

Stavros Niarchos Hall of the Greek National Opera – SNFCC

Starts at: 19.30 | clock

The Greek National Opera Professional Dance School is holding its annual performance showcase –prepared under the guidance of its Director of Studies Yorghos Matskaris– on Saturday 3 and on Sunday 4 June 2023 at 19.30 inside the Stavros Niarchos Hall of the Greek National Opera at the SNFCC. This performance allows us to meet the stars of the future, to applaud their youthful elan, and to reward their efforts to become the dancers of tomorrow.

The showcase will feature excerpts from the ballet La Bayadère, with music by Ludwig Minkus. The choreography –based on Marius Petipa’s classic version– is by Fotis Diamantopoulos, with coaching by Eleni Kladou, Elisavetta Basova, Lydia Kayou, and Vassiliki Spyridonos. The internationally acclaimed Greek choreographer Harris Gkekas has created a new piece –Crossover– for the GNO Dance School. And an excerpt from Minus 16 by the Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin –a leading light of the international dance scene– is also being presented, with Hani Sirkis serving as his rehearsal assistant.

Yorghos Matskaris notes: “Another highly creative and productive year is drawing to a close, with the students of our School’s professional and preparatory year groups more than ready for our annual performance showcase. Our students yet again showed great dedication and commitment to their studies, working, learning, and training intensively to acquire the skills and experience they need to progress as artists – and for this, they each deserve our warmest congratulations.”
