The GNO Learning & Participation Department, sponsored by Piraeus Bank, invites teenagers aged 14 to 18 from various neighbourhoods, schools, and cultural backgrounds across Attica to come together, experiment, and co-create through the intercultural opera hub Co-OPERAtive. Starting with music, theatre, and dance, participants will jointly shape an original music theatre work, which will be presented before a live audience on 15 May 2027. Applications can be submitted by 5 October 2026, exclusively via the form available here.

The support of the GNO’s Intercultural Education Programmes is part of Piraeus Bank’s EQUALL Corporate Responsibility programme, which aims to provide the younger generation with access to and engagement with culture. Every year, the  Co-OPERAtive programme creates a space for artistic encounter and creative exchange for young people from different nationalities and backgrounds. Through a series of consistent workshops, participants engage with diverse forms of artistic expression, discover new ways to communicate, and gradually develop a shared creative language.

Under the guidance of an experienced artistic team, teenagers actively participate in all stages of the creative process: from the initial concept and improvisation to composition, dramaturgy, movement, and ultimately, staging a new music theatre work.

This year’s artistic team consists of Fotis Siotas (composer), Ioanna Piata (director), Evdoxia Androulidaki (dramaturg), and Tassos Karachalios (choreographer).

Throughout the programme, members of the Co-Operative team will have the chance to explore their potential, cultivate personal and group skills, and communicate through music, theatre, and movement. At the core of the programme lies co-creation: the exchange of experiences, ideas, and different perspectives that can transform into shared artistic material.

Meanwhile, participants will have the opportunity to get up close to the world of the Greek National Opera, the process of creating a production, and the various professions surrounding the world of shows, gaining an experiential sense of how an artistic idea can move from a workshop to the stage.

Participation in the programme does not require specialized knowledge of music, theatre, or dance. However, any prior amateur or professional experience with the aforementioned art forms will be taken into consideration during the application evaluation process. A key requirement for participation is applicants’ motivation, willingness to collaborate and create, and availability during the workshop days, rehearsals, and the final performance.

Workshop days and times: Mondays, 17.30-20.30

Final rehearsals: 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, 14 May 2027

Final performance: 15 May 2027 • GNO Alternative Stage – SNFCC

The programme was awarded the FEDORA Education Prize in 2019.
