GNO TV is celebrating 5 years of operation

GNO TV is celebrating 5 years of operation and is offering its entire content for free for one month.

From 1 to 31 March 2026, all new productions and updated programmes on the GNO’s digital platform will be available for free.

On 14 March 2026, GNO TV will celebrate five years of operation, and to mark this occasion, it is offering its audiences across the world its renewed content for free for the entire month of March, inviting them to discover or enjoy unique opera, dance, and music theatre productions anew. Since its launch in 2021, more than half a million audience members from around the world have had the chance to watch numerous opera, dance, and music theatre performances online as well as enjoy the Greek National Opera’s online festivals, all presented with optimal image and sound quality. GNO TV is made possible by a grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) to enhance GNO’s artistic outreach.

GNO TV began its pilot operation in November 2020 and was officially launched in March 2021 during the coronavirus pandemic. Despite the challenging circumstances of that time, GNO TV was more than just a response to shows being cancelled due to the global health crisis; it was a digital leap made by the Greek National Opera to share its work with audiences worldwide. Over the past five years, thousands of spectators from across the world have watched more than 130 different productions, including opera, music theatre, dance, concerts, and online festivals, streamed on the GNO TV platform.

Upcoming uploads on GNO TV will include the opera productions of Tosca and Rigoletto, the concert performance of Flora mirabilis, the dance productions of Giselle and Epilogue, the 2025 International Opera Awards Ceremony as well as the music theatre performances Karagiozis as Rigoletto, Journey to the Land of the Ugly, and Beasties of the Apocalypse.

Furthermore, the following productions will remain available on GNO TV: La forza del destino, the GNO Ballet production Golden Age, the Alternative Stage’s productions I Want to See the Pope!, Madre Salonico, The Fall of the House of Commons, Blessed Are the Breasts That Never Gave Suck…, the dance productions Winterreise, and W(H)OMAN, the online festivals Waves of Light (Aliveri & Megalopoli), GETAWAY, The Myrtle and the Mirror, The Water of the Sun, concerts and performances from the Sacred Music Festival as well as the recital ‘Maria Callas: The Repertoire Never Heard’.

GNO TV at a glance
GNO TV aims to spread the artistic work of the sole Greek Opera House worldwide, expanding the concept of artistic outreach. GNO TV’s goal is to reach a global audience of opera enthusiasts, as the GNO’s artistic identity and production quality align perfectly with the standards of the international online opera market.

GNO TV offers a wide range of productions, including opera and ballet at the Stavros Niarchos Hall, operettas, music theatre, and festivals by the Alternative Stage as well as shows for the whole family, online festivals, and educational programmes.

GNO TV performances are streamed through the Akamai global content delivery network—an on-demand platform that gives audiences the chance to watch GNO productions from the comfort of their own homes, whenever they like and as many times as they like, for one full month starting from their first stream.

GNO TV productions are filmed using a multi-camera setup, specifically directed for the screen, and are broadcast with subtitles in Greek and other foreign languages (English as well as French, and/or German, as indicated).

During the 2024–2026 period, GNO TV expanded its operations, and its content was enriched with 35 productions, recorded as part of the Work ‘Sub 4.12 Initiatives for the digital transformation of the Greek National Opera’ (ΟΠΣ ΤΑ 5176140) under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan ‘Greece 2.0’, funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
