OPEN CALL to participate in the GNO Intercultural Choir | GNO Learning & Participation

GNO Learning & Participation make an open call to permanent or temporary residents of Athens, professional and amateur musicians from all communities of the city, to become members of the Intercultural Choir of the Greek National Opera.

Choir rehearsals take place on a weekly basis at the Greek National Opera at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center.

In this context, we invite new members with an appetite for singing and for exploring new music to join our force. The selection of new members will be made with a view to highlighting the cross-cultural character of the Choir and the balanced representation of all age groups and vocal categories.

A few words about the Intercultural Choir:

The Intercultural Choir began its journey in 2016, with the formation of a diverse group of Athenians, which brings together different ethnicities and musical traditions. Since then, the members of the Intercultural Choir join their voices and through their concerts and their artistic collaborations, they highlight the immediacy and power of song and music every time.

Within nine years, the Intercultural Choir has hosted members from Poland, Slovakia, Tanzania, New Guinea, Ukraine, Cameroon, Syria, Cyprus, the United Kingdom, France, the United States, Canada, Iran, Kenya, Congo, Iraq, Egypt, Serbia, Turkey, Georgia, Algeria, Hungary and Greece.

During the upcoming artistic season, the Intercultural Choir will expand its repertoire, combining the songs of the world's folk traditions with contemporary vocal music. At the same time, through an ongoing exploration of various body music practices, the connections between voice, body and movement will be further developed.

The Intercultural Choir has performed concerts at the GNO Alternative Stage in the SNFCC, in various squares of Athens, at the Eleftherios Venizelos Airport and also at the Summer Nostos Festival of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. During the 2024-2025 artistic season, the Intercultural Choir participated in the performance of “(Another) Winter Journey” which was staged at the Stavros Niarchos Hall of the Greek National opera at the SNFCC in the context of the intercultural opera hub CoOPERAtive. The Intercultural Choir has also collaborated with the Gothenburg International Opera Chorus under the direction and in works of the composer Trevor Grahl.
