Two additional dates for Verdi’s Otello directed by Robert Wilson: 11 and 15 March

With tickets for the production’s first five performances selling out weeks ago, the Greek National Opera would like to announce two additional dates for Otello – 11 and 15 March, at 19.30. Verdi’s masterpiece conducted by Stathis Soulis, and directed, designed, and with lighting by Robert Wilson– opens tomorrow, 23 February, for a run of dates that have now been fixed as follows: 23, 27 February and 2, 5, 8, 11, 15 March 2022.

Robert Wilson, a multi-award-winning avant-garde director who forever changed the way that opera is staged through his instantly recognisable signature style, foregrounds the music in his first collaboration with the Greek National Opera, offering up an Otello that unfolds within a minimalistic scenic world, with aesthetically striking and emotionally charged images, impressive lighting, stylised movement, singular costumes, and intense make-up.

Tickets for the two extra performances will go on sale on 23 February, at 09.00 in the morning, via ticketservices.gr and the GNO Box Office at the SNFCC (+30 2130885700, 09.0021.00 daily).

Otello is a Greek National Opera co-production with the Baden-Baden Easter Festival made possible by a grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) [www.SNF.org] to enhance the GNO’s artistic outreach.

In the title role is “the greatest Otello of our times” Aleksandrs Antoņenko; playing the lead roles alongside him are the internationally acclaimed GNO soloists Cellia Costea and Tassis Christoyannis. Also appearing are the GNO soloists Dimitris Paksoglou, Yannis Kalyvas, Petros Magoulas, Marinos Tarnanas, Pavlos Sampsakis, and Violetta Lousta.
