Open Call for Participants in the GNO Intercultural Choir

The Intercultural Choir project of the GNO Learning & Participation Department continues for a sixth year and invites permanent or temporary residents of Athens, professional or amateur musicians from every community in the city to become part of it. After a long pause in live meetings, old and new members from every corner of the earth will once again join their voices into a unique musical journey without borders. For this season, acclaimed singer Anna Linardou will be conducting the Intercultural Choir.

The Intercultural Choir already has more than 30 members. Ukraine, Cameroon, Slovakia, Tanzania, New Guinea, Syria, Cyprus, United Kingdom, France, USA, Iran, Kenya, Iraq, and Greece are only some of the countries of origin represented. The Choir’s repertoire is getting constantly expanded and enriched with wonderful songs from the traditional folk music of its members’ homelands.

Over the last years the Intercultural Choir has delivered workshops in migrant and refugee hospitality structures and has also given concerts on the GNO Alternative Stage at the SNFCC, at Kypseli and Omonia squares and at the Athens International Airport, as well as at the Summer Nostos Festival of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. Moreover, it has collaborated with the International Göteborg Opera Chorus performing works by composer Trevor Grahl under his baton.

Previous experience in music is not a prerequisite for participating in the Intercultural Choir.
