20.000 free tickets for the Medical and Nursing staff of the Greek NHS offered by the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Greek National Opera

As a sign of gratitude and respect towards the Doctors and Nursing staff of the Greek NHS, who are on the front line in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, the Minister of Culture and Sports Mrs. Lina Mendoni immediately and actively supported the initiative of Greek National Opera’s Artistic Director, Mr. Giorgos Koumendakis: the Ministry of Culture and Sports in collaboration with the Greek National Opera will offer 20.000 free tickets to the Doctors and Nursing Staff of the Greek NHS, for GNO performances that will be held from the time GNO reopens until summer 2021.

The importance of the contribution of the Doctors and Nurses of the Greek NHS to public health and to the life of all of us is of utmost importance. The Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Greek National Opera offer “a healing through lyric art, music and dance” to the people “behind the masks” who are battling the coronavirus with self-denial, in the face of adversity and danger – even for their own lives. We recognise their enormous contribution with this little gift, which will offer them the healing and entertaining qualities of art, once the health crisis is over.

Details about the distribution of the free tickets from the GNO to the Doctors and Nursing Staff of the Greek NHS will be announced in the near future, when the coronavirus restrictions start to be lifted and theatres gradually reopen.
