Announcement in relation to the opera Don Carlo

It is announced that director Graham Vick has been obliged to withdraw from the production of Verdi’s Don Carlo at the Greek National Opera, as he is currently undergoing intensive medical treatment for a severe back condition and his doctors have told him that he will be unable to resume work until December.

The Greek National Opera, in order not to disappoint the audience that has already expressed an immense interest in Don Carlo, proceeds to a collaboration with the Royal Opera House, London, the New York Metropolitan Opera and the Norwegian National Opera (Oslo), and will present their magnificent co-production of Verdi’s five-act masterpiece, directed by the great British director and former artistic director of London’s Royal National Theatre Sir Nicholas Hytner, with sets and costumes by Bob Crowley.

Don Carlo will be presented at the Greek National Opera’s Stavros Niarchos Hall in the SNFCC on the scheduled dates: 8, 13, 15, 19, 21, 28 December 2019 and 2, 5 January 2020.

The performance will be conducted by the celebrated conductor and artist in residence at the GNO for the 2019/20 season Philippe Auguin, starring renowned soloists, such as Marcelo Puente, Barbara Frittoli/Cellia Costea, Alexander Vinogradov, Ekaterina Gubanova, Tassis Christoyannis/Dimitri Platanias, Rafał Siwek e.t.c.

The production is made possible by a grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) [www.SNF.org] to enhance the Greek National Opera’s artistic outreach.

Tickets are available at the GNO Box Office at the SNFCC, Public stores and www.ticketservices.gr
