GNO Learning & Participation Lead Donor & Tour Programme Donor

Following its debut last year, Rigoletto, born as part of the Pocket Opera & Ballet programme, returns to Athens for six performances, and immediately after that, will tour Greece to continue transforming the first introduction to opera into an experience of joy, imagination, and the senses. The tour of the performance is part of the programme “The GNO Tours Greece,” made possible by a grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) to enhance the Greek National Opera’s artistic outreach.

 Inspired by Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto, this performance is specially designed for infants and young children aged 1 to 3, creating a multisensory world of sound, images, and movement. In this world, children, along with their guardians, actively participate, interact with one another, and express themselves freely. Starting with the aria “La donna è mobile” and drawing inspiration from the wondrous world of birds, concepts such as change and transformation are experienced through moving images, alternating colours, natural soundscapes, and live music based on themes adapted from Verdi’s music.

This project does not follow the conventional format of a theatre performance; on the contrary, it creates a space open to imagination, sensory exploration, and play, extending a gentle invitation to a first entertaining acquaintance with the world of opera.
