Based on Bost’s satirical Medea, Nikos Kypourgos’ operetta will be presented as part of the Summer Nostos Festival 2019. A genuinely groundbreaking work, which will acquire a new dimension once it is set to music and presented as an operetta. Besides, it is no accident that Bost managed to create a completely personal and recognizable satirical style, as a sketch artist, a copywriter, a playwright, and a painter as well. His unorthodox use of language and his deliberately misspelled texts aimed at deconstructing katharevousa (heavily archaized form of modern Greek) and establishing demotic Greek (colloquial modern Greek). Bost’s satire targeted the Greek petits bourgeois of the post-war decades, as well as Greek politics.
