A Greek National Opera concert in the gardens of the SNFCC

25 September 2016
Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center
Starts at 20.00 | clock
Free entrance

Just a few short months before the Greek National Opera officially throws open the doors at its new facilities at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre, the GNO’s orchestra, choir and children's choir along with renowned soloists and singers will launch the 2016-2017 artistic period with a musical feast at the Stavros Niarchos Park, open to all.

From the tranquillity of the Nutcracker Suite’s Waltz of the Flowers to the enchanted forest of the Magic Flute, from the blossoming cherry trees of Madam Butterfly to the supernatural swan of Lohengrin, nature has always been a key source of inspiration for music's great composers. In this first major outdoor concert at the Stavros Niarchos Park, the Greek National Opera will present a programme packed with excerpts from famous Italian and German operas as well as music for ballet.

In an amazing outdoor setting under the stars of Attica, the Greek National Opera will take the audience on a magical journey through some of the world’s most beautiful and lasting operas and ballets, presenting excerpts from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Magic Flute, Giacomo Puccini’s La boheme and Madama Butterfly, Giuseppe Verdi's Rigoletto and La Traviata, Richard Wagner’s Lohengrin and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite.
