Frank van Aken

Dutch tenor, he is widely acknowledged to be one of the most popular singers of his generation. A winner of the Christina Deutekom Voice Competition, he studied at the Royal Conservatory, The Hague, and under the American tenor James McCray. He gave his professional debut as Macduff (Macbeth, Nationale Reisopera, Enschede), followed by his Italian debut as Mario Cavaradossi (Tosca, Rome). He was a member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein (Düsseldorf, 1997/2000) and in 2006 he joined the Frankfurt Opera. He has sung at prestigious opera houses and festivals worldwide. He made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera, New York, as Siegmund (Die Walküre, 2012). Moreover, he has performed Tannhäuser in Budapest and at the Semperoper Dresden, where he also sang the title roles in Tristan und Isolde and Strauss’ Guntram, Siegmund (Die Walküre, Βarcelona), Alexej (Prokofiev’s The Gambler, Frankfurt Opera), Drum Major (Wozzeck, Dutch National Opera, Amsterdam), as well as the title roles of Parsifal and Tannhäuser (Nationaltheater Mannheim). At the Greek National Opera he has sung Aegisthus in Richard Strauss’ Elektra (2017).
