Jaafar Chalabi

Architect and set designer, born in Baghdad, he lives in Vienna. Since 1984 he has been working as a freelance architect and since 2006 he has been co-Director and Partner at Chalabi Architekten & Partner (Vienna / Abu Dhabi). He has realized numerous major projects such as the Royal Residence in Morocco (ongoing), the refurbishment of Hotel Imperial in Vienna, private residences and museum buildings, the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre (Abu Dhabi), etc. Moreover, he has designed the sets for numerous ballets of Nacho Duato as Static Time (Berlin State Opera), Romeo and Juliet (Mikhailovsky Theatre, St Petersburg, Russia), Jardín Infinito (Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow), Hevel (Gran Teatre deI Liceu, Barcelona), Castrati, Txalaparta and Ofrenda de sombras (Teatro Real, Madrid), White Darkness (Teatro Real, Madrid / Opéra Garnier, Paris, and Mikhailovsky Theatre, St Petersburg), Multiplicity. Forms of Silence and Emptiness (Valladolid / Weimar). As an architect he has received numerous awards and has taught in many academic foundations.
